Our aviary specializes in close-banded, quality, hand fed, abundance weaned, companion parrots, that are socialized on a daily basis in a non-smoking, nonalcoholic home. I am a stay at home mom. They are cuddled, hugged, kissed, talked, whispered and sung to, played with and snuggled in a loving, stimulating and enriching home environment that is a private sanctuary and retreat for the humans and the chicks. They are used to seeing and being around a dog and cat.

They have a playroom which measures 21' long by 14' wide, which is housed in my main living area beside the kitchen and even has its own sink. They play on 6 large and small playgrounds (2' d x 6' l), 2 - (2' d x 4' l), (2' d x 3' l), (2.5 d' x 2' w) and a (2' d x 2' w) covered with a variety of toys, foot toys, hanging toys, ladders, chewable leather and wood pieces, etc., a variety of hanging swings, 2 hanging gyms, 2 standing playgyms, 2 playstands & a Boing from the ceiling. They have a real 4' l x 3' d x 6' h lilac tree filled with toys and swings. They reside in large cages, with 2 different size perches, a variety of toys, including a swing. They listen to a radio with soft music for about 10 hrs a day.

The chicks have several pleasurable views with fresh air and sunshine of our courtyard and backyard, which has extensive landscaping and perennial gardens, a working fountain, seeing various species of birds and creatures. When the chicks are out, they interact with other avian hand fed species, as well as my own avian pets. My Cockatiel, Dove and Rosellas are out at the same time.

With the above environment [Canada's Wonderland for Parrots], there is just so much for the chicks to do, when they are out and about the playroom. They totally enjoy investigating, discovering, exploring, interacting, playing, flying, swinging and just hanging out! It is such an extreme joy and pleasure to watch the chicks do all this and develop and learn various things to help them wean and adjust to variable situations in their new home environment. This type of activity makes for an well adjusted mentally balance individual. The chicks know how to entertain themselves when given a variety of toys and will try just about anything.

Our chicks learn how to fly and maneuver expertly and precisely in their playroom for several weeks and then we start a progressive wing clip every week or two. This is were a couple of feathers on each wing are clipped.  Then the final clipping is done a couple of days, before the chicks are placed into their new home. This type of clip helps the chicks exercise their wings, which builds well-muscled breast tissue, as well as being emotionally and psychologically beneficial for their mental well being. It aids in a well balanced, secured and trusting individual.

All my chicks are hand fed from the ages of 12 - 26 days. They come with a hatch certificate and a pamphlet on care, feeding, behaviour, etc and a species information sheet, if one is available. They are weaned onto a pellet diet, vegetables, fruit and more.

We believe in abundance weaning and do not force the birds to wean [forced weaning - skipping a feeding or total withdrawal of food when the chick has been seen nibbling and starting to drink water] to any time line or any one's schedule. I cannot tell you the exact time when your little darling will wean. But can only give an approximate time line. It can be anywhere's give or take a few weeks from the stated time line. I can only base it on the average weaning times of previous chicks that I have hand fed. {;o)

If you live near the locality of my home. You are very welcome, by appointment to come and check out our birds and myself before reserving your chick. When the bird of your choice is reserved. Hurray!!! My little darlings have arrived!
My Avian Breeders
Here are some photos of my nursery and little darlings from my other home. When I have some time, I will update with new photos of my current nursery. We first had paneling on our walls and carpet in our other home. Then renovated the walls to recycled white plastic and vinyl flooring. In our current home we have mildew resistant painted wood paneling and laminate tile flooring.
